HICKLING RALLY 1971

The main street and around the basin area was bedecked by bunting and banners,
there was a marquee on the grass between the trans-shipment shed and the road and
the rally was opened by the President, Sir Denis Le Marchant bt. A good collection of
boats attended and were moored along the loading wharf quay, there was a very basic
earth slipway in front of the marquee near the road. Tthe event was very successful in
promoting the intended restoration of the Grantham Canal.
